Nigel's preschool teacher these past two years, Miss Shanny, is not teaching during the summer, leaving the family with a decision to make about where to put Nigel. Mom and Dad have felt he is ready for a Kindergarten curriculum, and Miss Shanny agreed, though all of them are a bit concerned about longer days and the different pace of work. He has expressed boredom with the works in that preschool room, though, so making a change seems necessary. Miss Shanny and Miss Ally are sad to see him leave her class, as they both have really appreciated Nigel's lively and intelligent personality, but recognize that it is time for him to move onward.
Dad has really wanted to see Nigel start with a kindergarten curriculum during the summer, and Dancing Moose was flexible enough to try that, despite his young age. As Mom and Dad wanted Nigel to be in the dual-language Spanish-English kindergarten class, and Miss Janet, the Spanish teacher in that class, would be teaching a group of kindergarteners during the summer, that seemed to be the place.
This kindergarten class does full days, rather than the half-days he has been used to, and Nigel has often come home worn out. That said, he is encountering learning materials that are much better suited to his age, and it has been really satisfying to see his progress with them. Nigel has been doing really well adapting to these new challenges, and seems to be enjoying them.
Mom and Dad are looking forward to the fall, with the more formalized curriculum, extra physical activity time, and more structure in the routine. Yoga, tae-kwon-do, zumba, music and theatre time, hooray!
